The Largest Vehicle Recall in U.S. History

Here is what you need to know!

What is the Takata recall? The National Traffic Safety Administration is letting you know that there will be 65-70 million defective Takata airbag inflators recalled by 19 automakers by the end of this year. This is roughly 37 million cars of many makers, equipped with 50 million defective Takata airbags. This is why it is important to ensure you aren’t driving around with a defective airbag.

Here at Fitzgerald Toyota Gaithersburg, we are reaching out to ensure our Arlington and Alexandria drivers are aware of the situation. We highly suggest that you schedule an appointment to have this issue resolved. Additional airbags are scheduled to be recalled by December 2019, bring the total number of affected airbags to around 65-70 million.

These defective airbags fall apart, and degrade over time, especially in warmer climates with high humidity. If a defective airbag deploys, sharp metal fragments can hit you and your passengers, causing more injuries. If you wait to have these airbags replaced, you risk putting yourself and your passengers in grave danger.
