Do I need to have my vehicle inspected?

1. Did you just move to Maryland and is your vehicle registered in another state? Then yes, you have 60 days to register your vehicle and to do that your car must pass Maryland state inspection.
2. Are you a resident of Maryland and have become an owner of a used vehicle? Then yes, you will need a Maryland Safety Inspection certificate dated no more than 90 days prior to the registration date. This means even if the car you bought has already been inspected this year, you will still need to go through the inspection process again, because the certificate is only valid for 90 days

What we look at during a Maryland Inspection?

Maryland inspection is performed to make sure that a vehicle meets certain minimum safety standards as established by the state. Inspection requirements may change based on weight and type of vehicle, but in most cases we inspect the following:

What happens if I don't pass inspection?

If your car fails the inspection, you will be given a reason why and a recommendation from your mechanic. We can complete the repairs for you, but you also have the option to take your vehicle to your preferred auto service shop. Maryland law allows 30 days or 1,000 miles to complete the repairs.

My vehicle passed inspection, now what?

If everything checks out, you will be issued an inspection certificate that you can take to your local MVA office to apply for title and registration.
